Last month, we discussed injury prevalence this time of the year when the body is tired and broken if not taken care of properly. We discussed that we need to be aware, be honest and be realistic so that we don’t hurt ourselves even worse – missing more practices, matches, and ultimately a season. I felt that the last blog I posted was an important one to begin with as I wanted to get a message out that not all pain is good and that you should really be communicating with the right people: parents, coaches, club staff, your doctor, or even your in-house physical therapist, me, Gwen Alden.
Besides my family, volleyball and helping people recover are two of my passions. So, helping you is my joy! I have been a physical therapist for 20 years, graduating from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 1996. There, my education was paid for on a scholarship to play 4 years of volleyball. Along with volleyball, I have always been interested in anatomy and physiology and the physics of how the body works; therefore, physical therapy was a natural career path for me.
Physical therapy is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty that remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention. With this professional process and within my scope of practice, I can help you through many different injuries, conditions, diseases, or dysfunctions.
