As a follow-up to the discussion on the shoulder complex, instability and potential injury for volleyball athletes, HealthWest Therapy is happy to take the topic one step further to support these awesome athletes in an injury prevention program. In the next couple of weeks, I will be delivering the promised Therabands to each of the travel teams. Several teams will meet together at the beginning or the end of a practice to go through all of the exercises. They can then come to practice to do their program together or individually, do the program at home or coaches can implement them into the beginning of practice or game warm-ups. So, make sure to keep the Therabands in your backpacks. Along with the attached document for your own printing, there will be laminated copies of the program at each court near the whiteboards.

Take care of your shoulders! If you plan to play volleyball for a long time, you’ll need to do some injury prevention work on a regular basis – just ask any adult in the gym who plays. Do the exercises at least 3 times per week! They should take you 15 minutes. That means out of 10,080 minutes in the week, it will take approximately .0015% of your week. So, no excuses!

As always, HealthWest Therapy is here for you all – parents, family and athletes alike! Let me know how I can help you in any way – screening an injury, biomechanics analysis and review, strength and conditioning, and of course physical therapy rehabilitation services.
